Tough Defeat, But Consistency Key In Marathon Season
The mood around here is that we're upset about losing to Miami in the fashion we lost, but we're OK. We know how to bounce back from tough moments in a season. One thing you learn in this league is that you have to prepare to play a marathon.
We have three games left. We know we have a lot of season remaining. We're going to bounce back from the loss to the Dolphins. I give them credit. They played well. But we know we're better than we played.
When you are a rookie in this league, you hit a wall. It happens to everybody. You are used to playing 11 or 12 games a year in college and then all of a sudden you have a hard training camp and the season lasts a long time.
By about the 10th game, you're drained. I realized right then and there that I needed to work through this. I had a lot of veterans around me who told me how important it was to take care of your body and your mind and prepare for the long season. It's hard.
Now that I'm older. It's long muscle memory. I'm conditioned to it now, so I know how to push through.
On Sunday against Miami, I started at tackle. It was tough for me, because it was like playing a foreign position. I've played tackle in the nickel, but when you play it on first and second down, there is much more technique involved. It wasn't easy, but I know I have to get used to it.
Coach Belichick expects us to play across the line. You have to prepare yourself for anything that might happen, be ready to play any position along the line. We play Houston this week. We need to get back on track, get everybody playing together again. We're disappointed that we lost to Miami, but we still have a two-game lead in the division. We need to keep building on that and get going for the end of the season.
